Dr.Kalaignar Muthuvel Karunanidhi is the honourable present Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, India. He was born on June 3, 1924 at Thirukuvalai village near Thiruvarur in Tanjore district of Tamil Nadu as the son of Shri Muthuvel, scholar and pandit, and Shrimathi Anjugam, the housewife. He has been the president of DMK (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) for more than four decades after Arignar AnnaDurai and won the hearts of millions and millions of his enthusiastic followers. When Congress and DMK contested for State Assemblies in the year 1967, Dr.C.N.AnnaDurai asked Dr.Kalaignar and Dr.MGR to compaign for the success of DMK party in Tamil Nadu and removing ruling Congress party. As he loves Tamil literature Silappathikaram, he has constructed a wonderful historical monument at Poompukar, the place where River Kaveri fed on Bay of Bengal, to celebrate Kannagi, the heroine of Silapathikaram. The other popular monument built by Kalaignar is Valluvar Kottam at Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu and this is to honour the saint poet Thiruvalluvar who wrote Thirukural. Even today Valluvar Kottam is existing as one of the important tourist attractions of Chennai. Dr. Kalaignar government has achieved another great monument 133 foot high Thiruvalluvar Statue at Kanyakumari. The aim of this scheme is to make poor farmers get more profits for their products from their own land.
